Dear Camper,

It is that time of the year again!  Make you plans now to join us for a fun filled camp experience. Camp Mephibosheth will be held at Rainbow Christian Camp located in Converse, IN. During Beach Party, we will grow in a closer relationship with God, experience the love of Jesus as our friend and Savior, and be inspired to share our belief with others.

Last year we had a waiting list!  For the first time we will be offering 2 identical sessions this year in order to serve more campers!  Please mark which session you would like to attend on the enclosed paper and return it with your application.  Please note that it is not guaranteed that you will receive your preferred session as they will be assigned on a first come basis. In order to receive the session you request, it is necessary to return your application as soon as possible.

Reserve Your Spot NOW!!!!
No applications will be accepted after June 1 due to the extensive planning needed for this camp.

Volunteers / Faculty Information

Volunteer Companion/Faculty Application

Volunteer Companion Covenant

found in the Volunteer Companion/Faculty Application

  • I will come prepared to focus my attention on the camper assigned to me and always show them respect as though they were Christ, Himself.
  • I will gladly participate in all scheduled activities and activities that interest my camper.
  • I will honor those God has called to be the leaders of this event and joyfully follow their instruction.
  • I will conduct myself in a manner that brings honor to God and will not use tobacco, alcohol, or any drug that is not dispensed by the camp nurse.
  • For the protection of the campers attending, it is necessary for all volunteers and campers to turn in all medications.  I agree to allow the camp nurses to administer all my medications, both prescription and  over the counter.
  • I agree to abide by all camp procedures, and work to the best of my ability to be a good companion to my camper.
  • I will grow in my understanding of being a servant of Christ and remember that I came as a servant, not a savior.

I accept that, as a Volunteer Faculty member, I will be the representation of Jesus Christ to the camper assigned to me.  I realize that I may be the first representation of Christ that my camper has ever encountered.  I hereby commit to making this experience a time of spiritual growth for my new friends.  I further agree to follow Christ’s example in Luke 9:23, daily placing my desires aside, giving complete dedication to the needs of the campers.
“If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.”

Letter to Volunteer Companion/Support Faculty

Session #1 July 19 – 21, 2008
or
Session #2 July 23 – 25, 2008

Campers arrive July 19 or 23, volunteer training for both sessions on July 19.

Dear Volunteer Companion,

It is that time of the year again! Make you plans now to join us for a fun filled camp experience. Camp Mephibosheth will be held at Rainbow Christian Camp located in Converse, IN. During Beach Party, we will grow in a closer relationship with God, experience the love of Jesus as our friend and Savior, and be inspired to share our belief with others.

Last year we had a waiting list!  We are excited to announce for the first time we will be offering 2 identical sessions this year in order to serve more campers!  This requires a tremendous step of faith as we will need twice as many volunteers! The Lord is faithful! Please mark which session you would like to volunteer your time with on your application.

Staff training for both sessions will be held Saturday morning, July 19. The definite time will be sent with your final confirmation packet you will receive at the end of June. The first session overnight campers will begin arriving Saturday afternoon and stay through Monday evening at 7:00pm. Second session will begin Tuesday morning and conclude Friday early afternoon.

Through this link you will find the application.  In order to comply with insurance liability concerns, it is necessary for us to have a background check on file for each volunteer. Please note: If a background check is not on file with Mephibosheth Ministries, Inc., a release form will be sent with your confirmation packet.  A fee is required to complete the background check. There has never been any allegations made towards us, nor do we anticipate any. By taking this pro-active step, we are assuring parents across the state their child is in a safe environment while with us overnight. This information will be kept on file and held confidential.

There will be a June 1 deadline for applications to be returned to the office of Mephibosheth Ministries, Inc. There is extensive preparation and planning involved in order to have successful camp experience…making the best match possible between camper and volunteer companion, home-based prayer partners, room assignments, teams, etc. It is necessary for me to have the month of June to accomplish this. Please realize that the number of campers permitted to attend is contingent upon the dependability of the faculty to be there for them. Should it be impossible for you to fulfill this agreement, notify Mephibosheth Ministries, Inc. promptly by telephone or email, with a written cancellation to follow.

I sincerely appreciate all your time in serving in this area.  I know many of you are taking vacation days from work and appreciate your willingness to do so. While we do not require volunteers to pay, if you would like to make a donation to us in any amount to offset meal expenses, it would be appreciated.

God Bless!
Becky Moore, Director
Mephibosheth Ministries, Inc.

Volunteer / Faculty Policy & Procedures

We want to insure that every servant attending Camp Mephibosheth has a positive experience. It is also important to protect the people we are called to serve. For this reason we have found it necessary to have a procedure regarding volunteer selection.

1) Camp Mephibosheth serves children and adults who have developmental disabilities. For their protection, it is important to look carefully at the volunteers who will serve them.

  • Attendees who are 18 years old or older must sign a release on the application
that will permit Mephibosheth Ministries, Inc. to conduct a criminal background check if one is not on file. Also, they must be recommended by their pastor or youth director and provide 1 personal reference (other than relation). There will be a fee to be submitted with the application. Background checks will be kept on file and held confidential.
  • All attendees under 21 years of age will have the signature of a parent or legal guardian on the Camp Mephibosheth application.
  • Every applicant for this servant event, supervising adult or youth, must be willing
to be paired as a companion with a child or adult who has a mental disability for the entire camp or serve in a support volunteer capacity (as approved by Mephibosheth Ministries, Inc.)
  • Every applicant for this servant event must be willing to sleep in either a cabin
or conference center in order to closely monitor and assist our campers. No recreational vehicles will be allowed, (other than the Camp Director’s).
  • Supervising adults may be appointed by Mephibosheth Ministries, Inc. to supervise a cabin and may or may not be assigned to a camper at Mephibosheth Ministries, Inc. discretion.
  • All volunteers attending Camp Mephibosheth for the first two times need to attend the entire volunteer orientation beginning Saturday, July 21st at 3:00 p.m. If you have previously served at 2 Camp Mephibosheth sessions and find you must miss a portion of the orientation, we will approve this absence on an individual basis.
  • Due to the extensive planning for this event, there will be a June 1st deadline for applications to be received. It is necessary to notify Mephibosheth Ministries, Inc. as soon as possible by telephone or email, with a written cancellation to follow if you are unable to attend.
  • Volunteers younger than 18 years of age will register through one of Rainbow Christian Camp’s 2 service camps which will be integrated into the Camp Mephibosheth experience. Each camp will have time with Camp Mephibosheth, but will have programming by their camp dean that will fit the young volunteer’s needs also.
    • Hands & Feet ~ grades 7-9
    • Ziba ~ grades 10-13

2) Safety is a priority for both campers and volunteers.

  • A professional nurse will be at every session to attend to first aid needs and medication distribution.
  • Every applicant will provide proof of medical insurance with application.  A copy of the family medical card is sufficient.
  • All medications will be turned into the nurse.  Medications must be packaged as described in the medication procedure sent out with camp confirmation materials.  This includes prescription and over-the-counter medications. Common, over-the-counter medication is available through the camp nurse. It is important to protect campers from ingesting the wrong medications.

3) To secure a reservation to serve at Camp Mephibosheth, Mephibosheth Ministries, Inc. will receive:

  • Completed and signed Camp Mephibosheth Volunteer Application.
  • While we do not require volunteers to pay for meals while at camp, if you would like to make a donation to us in any amount to offset this expense (estimated $20.00 per day), it would be greatly appreciated.

4) Responsibility

  • Mephibosheth Ministries, Inc. is the responsible organization. We reserve the right to appoint camp directors, spiritual directors, and camp supervisors.
  • Mephibosheth Ministries, Inc. staff or appointed supervisors will provide any necessary discipline of volunteers attending Camp Mephibosheth.
  • Behaviors that will result in discipline are: self-medication under the age of 21; drug or alcohol use; use of tobacco; breaking curfew; sexual, physical, or verbal abuse; immoral behavior; and insubordination with a supervising adult.
