Independent / Semi-Independent Living Program
We are happy to have our first residents established in one of our duplexes. They are enjoying their independence in a setting that is comfortable, convenient and feels like home ... all with supports in place to ensure their success.
Program Kick-Off - 2008
God has done amazing things for Mephibosheth Ministries, Inc. as we sought His will and direction for the mission over the past year. We are excited to announce that doors have been opened for us to begin pursuing the development of an independent/semi-independent living program for the individuals we serve.
Several years ago, we received a gift of 30,000 for residential development. This program is one that we had on our initial goals and objectives when we formed the mission in 2001. It was discerned at a strategic planning session the board conducted in November that God could use the residential program as a stepping stone to the Community Building (our BIG DREAM which we are not giving up on...just waiting for His perfect timing).
We were able to locate 3 duplex units in Cicero and by God's mighty hand we closed on the property January 3rd! We are buying on land contract and have a 5 year balloon payment, but desire to be mortgage free within 2 years! We do not want to be in debt, but be able to do more for the Lord. We committed this to Him and knew that the only way we could accomplish this was if He walked ahead, preparing the way! Our primary focus over the first year will be to raise the money to pay off the units so the rent collected will go into the residential program rather than paying our mortgage.
While the task ahead sometimes looks overwhelming, we praise God that we are not alone! This will only be accomplished as we continue to seek His Will for the mission. Please prayerfully consider how you might join with us. His blessings will overflow. He always gives us back much more than we pour out!

From A Mother's Heart
God knew us before we were even conceived. He knows our future,He knows us by name. He has a plan for each of us from the very beginning. He will never give us more than we can bear. If we let him, God will give us the strength we need to get thru the hard times. He will also share in the joys of our life. What a blessing it is to have God and his love in our lives.
As parents, we love our children at the moment of birth and for the rest of our lives. We hope and pray that they will grow-up to adulthood and have a happy, prosperous, Christian life.
As parents of a special needs child, we hope and pray for a pain free, happy life. A life filled with love, caring, and Christianity. Our concerns are different than other parents. We will possibly leave this world before our disabled child has reached his or her's life's end on this earth. Who will care for our disabled child after we're gone from here??? God tells us not to worry....he will take care of us and our children; if we have faith in him. How hard it is to not worry about this child who we have loved and nurtured thru endless pain and difficult struggles for 42 years. We have to depend on God's loving strength.
Neil and I have tried to instill independence in our son, Greg, who is blind and mentally challenged. What a love we have for our son, who is now an adult and incapable of living on his own. Will he still have the same loving care after we are no longer able to care for him???
This is where God and Mephibosheth Ministries will be our salvation. Mephibosheth Ministries has almost achieved a dream of many years. With God's help, the ministry has purchased duplexes in Cicero to help house our special people. These homes will eventually provide assistive living, security and hope for our children.
It is so hard to think about placing Greg in a home other than our own home; but we know that a time will come when we can no longer physically take care of him. My stomach turns upside down and tears fill my eyes everytime I think about this time in our future. It is so hard to think about someone else caring for Greg. Wondering if he will be feed well, dressed well, caringly loved. Will he still be able to do and have the special thngs that mean so much in his simple life today.
Again, we have to have faith and trust in God and Mephibosheth Ministries for his future. We have so many wonderful, caring people who are helping care for the duplexes. If you have extra time or a special gift; we always have work that needs to be done on them.
